Compound drought constrains gross primary productivity in Chinese grasslands

چکیده

Abstract Water constraints disturb and damage the growth development of grassland vegetation mainly through both atmospheric soil pathways. In background rapid climate change in future, impacts water on grasslands are expected to further deepen. However, current studies lack reports exploring frequency, intensity, area land-atmospheric compound drought carbon indicators ecosystems. this study, we analyze response China dual terrestrial-atmospheric constraint events using ISIMIP gross primary productivity (GPP) data reveal cycle-climate feedback relationships over Chinese grassland. We found that occurrence probability (i.e. constraint) was 3–4 times higher than random events, affected droughts were significantly single droughts. Compound caused a decline up 20.27% GPP ecosystems China, while or only 12.34% 14.32%. Which is because vapor pressure deficit moisture set strongly coupled bivariate variables, continued strengthening causes an increased impact ecosystem GPP.

Evaluation of rangeland gross primary productivity sensitivity potential to drought using ecosystem modelling

Gross primary productivity is one of the most important factors in the carbon cycle of terrestrial ecosystems. With global warming increase, the frequent drought events and the specific response of regional vegetation to these changes, it is essential to identify and quantify the relationships between climatic and GPP data in arid region. In this study, the responses of gross primary productivi...

A Comparison of Satellite-Derived Vegetation Indices for Approximating Gross Primary Productivity of Grasslands

Gross primary productivity (GPP) is a key component of ecosystem carbon fluxes and the carbon balance between the biosphere and the atmosphere. Accurate estimation of GPP is essential for quantifying plant production and carbon balance for grasslands. Satellite-derived vegetation indices (VIs) are often used to approximate GPP. The widely used VIs include atmospherically resistant vegetation in...

Soil phosphorus constrains biodiversity across European grasslands.

Nutrient pollution presents a serious threat to biodiversity conservation. In terrestrial ecosystems, the deleterious effects of nitrogen pollution are increasingly understood and several mitigating environmental policies have been developed. Compared to nitrogen, the effects of increased phosphorus have received far less attention, although some studies have indicated that phosphorus pollution...

North American gross primary productivity: regional characterization and interannual variability

Seasonality and interannual variability in North American photosynthetic activity reflect potential patterns of climate variability. We simulate 24 yr (1983–2006) and evaluate regional and seasonal contribution to annual mean gross primary productivity (GPP) as well as its interannual variability. The highest productivity occurs in Mexico, the southeast United States and the Pacific Northwest. ...

Evaluating the drought response of CMIP5 models using global gross primary productivity, leaf area, precipitation, and soil moisture data

Realistic representation of vegetation’s response to drought is important for understanding terrestrial carbon cycling. We evaluated nine Earth system models from the historical experiment of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 5 for the response of gross primary productivity (GPP) and leaf area index (LAI) to hydrological anomalies. Hydrological anomalies were characterized by the ...
